DEMING — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office announced Wednesday that Deming will receive $2.5 million grant funding to assist with the purchase and renovation of an unused motel on W. Pine Street to serve as a shelter for the unhoused and to provide supportive housing services.

The grant, awarded to the city and the Luna County Economic Development Center, was part of a tranche of $10.6 million distributed statewide from the Casa Connection grant program for organizations delivering transitional housing services.

Eligible projects were required to include wraparound services addressing healthcare, employment and/or other housing.
