Virtual broadband input meetings launch today (05/10)

SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO — A series of virtual public meetings is slated to start Wednesday, May 10 to give residents from across New Mexico a chance to weigh in about high-speed internet needs.

State broadband officials say input from the virtual meetings, as well as in-person sessions, will be used to form a blueprint spelling out internet needs and likely costs. That in turn will be used as the basis of funding requests to the federal government.

New Mexico could receive $600 million for broadband upgrades (the allocation hasn’t been finalized), as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, state officials have said.

The virtual sessions focus upon certain stakeholders but are open to all New Mexico residents.
